document.write("Thanks for this excellent, balanced article on veganism. It is unfortunate that the sole comment completely misconstrues what is in fact a completely healthy diet for all age groups by citing poorly researched, logically flawed scare articles about children being 'killed' by vegan diets. The truth of the matter is that the child in the NY Times article was starved to death - it had nothing to do with what the child was eating but that the child's parents knew nothing about nutrition and were feeding the child way too LITTLE.
As for the second link, well, if the best argument against vegan nutrition is from a homeopathy site....
To all those considering veganism, don't be put off by misleading articles - research the matter yourself on reputable websites and by asking nutritional experts. Veganism, when done right (which is easy), is probably the healthiest diet around.

I can't imagine having taken my time instead. If you don't want to eat animal products anymore, stop! Just be sure to do a little basic research and meal planning for your first week or two so you know what you're doing. Make sure to continue eating sufficient variety and calories, and you will be fine.. Eric Prescott");

For every idiot that couldn't figure out that veganism doesn't entail starving their child their are a thousand other idiots abusing their children through malnutrition with poor attempt at a standard diet, to little food, too much food, or just poor food choices.
Anyway, to comment on the article. I'm vegan. I don't eat any non-dairy soya cheese or yoghurts or even that much soya or meat replacements as that menu suggests. Okay, a little soya milk on my oatmeal or porridge and occasional soya based non-dairy ice cream and I do like tofu (really I do, it's good!), but I don't feel I need some soya or non-dairy cheese somewhere to complete a meal. I really like vegetables and I'm fine to eat them straight up so long as they are prepared well, and that's what important, just like in any cuisine.
As for non-vegans, take a good look at the above What do vegans eat? - Fresh food list in the article. That information is just as valuable to you as it is to any vegan.. Algonquin");

document.write("My wife and I (both mid-thirties) were vegetarians for about seven years and we slowly became vegan and have been strictly vegan for the past year. We live in Vancouver, Canada where this kind of lifestyle is not considered terribly extreme (thankfully) and we find it very easy to find interesting, and of course nutritious, food choices. I was impressed by the overall quality and accuracy of this article and also by the fact that it was published in the first place, as well as the apparent availability of vegan food choices in South Africa. While the article was great and made the accurate and scientifically supported argument of the health benefits of a vegan lifestyle I just wanted to add a further motivation for adopting the vegan way of life. Our planet needs people to reduce their footprint and being vegan is by far the single most effective way to reduce that footprint, not to mention relieving the terrible, needless suffering inflicted upon animals by the standard-diet food production machine.
All I can say is \"try it\", you'll be surprised by how easy it can be, not to mention tasty and of course, how good it will make you feel; both physically and emotionally.

document.write("Great article - I can say in truth that one CAN just stop eating flesh foods. Initially it takes a little work, but for the sake of your health, the planet and the animals that suffer, the occasional minor inconvenience is irrelevant. I must point out that ANY eating plan can be unhelathy if one does not eat wisely, and the article re veganism bad for children is nonsense - why are we not seeing articles on the millions of nutritionally deficient overweght kids 'living' on burgers and fries and soft drinks? i look forward to the day where vegan is the norm.... vivacious vegan ");
