Jenny: I've got horrible anal problems.

Harry: What sort of anal problem have you got?

Jenny: What happens is I itch horribly and it feels like I've got thorns all the time. And when my tummy wants to go it feels like there is a plug in there.

Harry: Okay, so have you been to the doctor and asked him to have a look to see what's what, because there could be many reasons for this. It could be piles, you could have a prolapse of the lining and there are number of possibilities. You might just have a skin disease there, you might have an eczema there or you might have an infection of various types. There are all sorts of possibilities.

Jenny: There's also a mucus that is sometimes present.

Harry: That's right. If you've got a prolapse of the lining that is projecting out of the anus, that secretes a mucus fluid and that may account for that symptom. But really Jenny, I know that people are reluctant to go and see the doctor when they've got a problem in that part of their anatomy, but you have to go along and find out what is actually wrong. Unless you find out what the cause is, this condition is going to continue.

Jenny: Okay, thank you.
