Harry: What do you mean when you say your stomach is bleeding?
Reggie: When I go to the loo I see red blood all over.
Harry: And how long has this been happening?
Reggie: It stops and starts. It happens a day or two after I drink Coke.
Harry: You see it may be something in the Coke that is irritating you. Coke contains caffeine and it is possible if you've got a rather sensitive stomach that it can irritate the stomach and cause bleeding. It is possible.
Harry: Does this mean that I shouldn't drink Coke anymore, because if I have other drinks like Fanta, I don't bleed.
Harry: The important point I want to make is this - when you see blood in the stool you can't simply attribute it to the Coke. The Coke may have something to do with it, but you can't simply blame it on the Coke and go onto something else like Fanta. I don't want to alarm you but if there is blood in the stool it needs to be checked out.
Reggie: It's not a stool as such - it is just water, it's just blood. There is no stool at all.
Harry: You mean just pure blood comes out.
Reggie:Yes.
Harry: Without a stool?
Reggie: Yes.
Harry: That should also be taken very, very seriously. You cannot attribute that to the Coke. I don’t want to alarm you but you mustn't waste any time. You must go to your doctor tomorrow and be properly examined. You must never ignore red blood passed in the stool - whether it's mixed with the stool or as in your particular case it's the blood on its own. Please, you must make a date with your doctor tomorrow and he must examine you very carefully. And if he's not sure, he must then send you to a specialist who will then check why you've got this blood coming out of your anus.
