Harry: Look, you've got to decide how bad this Chrone's disease is. If the Chrone's disease is severe, you clearly don't want to stop the cortisone. But it is clearly up to you and the doctor to sit down and discuss very frankly what the risks are. The risks depend very much on the dose of cortisone. What dose are you on?
Rene:I'm on 20mg.
Harry: Well that is a fair dose. How long have you had this?
Rene: I've been on it for two months.
Harry: Look, don't forget that when you're pregnant you start producing your own cortisone so you might be able to reduce the cortisone medicine and go through the pregnancy very well. Are you under control at the moment?
Rene: Yes, I had a very bad flare-up two months ago and I was in hospital.
Harry: Yes, but at the moment you're all right?
Rene: I'm all right at the moment but I'm worried because it's a hell of a situation to be in.
Harry: Sure. Look, you've got to be careful of taking any medicine while you're pregnant. But nevertheless I can assure that there have been many ladies who have had to be on cortisone while they were pregnant. And in the majority of cases there's been no problem. Don't forget that your baby is going to be monitored.
Rene: Okay, thank you very much.
Got something to say?
