Jeff: I had a baby recently ? just over a month ago ? and after about two weeks the baby developed quite a bad rash on the face. We were told that it is baby acne and it was this and it was that and nobody gave us any good advice. We went to a skin specialist, we got a paediatrician. They said it would go away.
Prof Harry: Unbelievable. You know who you should have spoken to, is a midwife. Often the nurses and midwifes are the people who know because they are in the front line.
Jeff: Let me just finish the story. I didn't want the baby to have to suffer for nothing. The nurse at the clinic we go to suggested a certain ointment and immediately we noticed an improvement in the child. The child is perfect now after about two days. Why don't doctors know about these ointments?
Prof Harry: What you're describing was important to you and very important to your baby and to your wife. But, unfortunately, and I'm sorry to have to say this, but I have to speak frankly about my colleagues, these conditions they regard as trivial, as minor, and they just ignore them. And most importantly, they don?t have any practical experience in managing it, whereas the nurse is in the front line. It is as important to her as to you. Let's hand a bouquet to all our nurses and to all our midwives! Marvellous ladies!
