Vivien: I'm phoning in connection with my 10-year old grandson. The doctor has put him onto Ritilin.
Harry: In other words, he's a hyperactive child.
Vivien: Yes.
Harry: Well I hope they've made a very careful decision about this before they put him onto Ritilin. I hope they evaluated him very carefully and consulted with the parents and the teacher and so forth.
Vivien: I think it was a child psychologist who actually put him on it.
Harry: All I'm saying is that one must be very careful before putting a child onto Ritilin. It's usually used for long periods of time and it can have side effects, and can sometimes make the hyperactivity even worse. Bear in mind that Ritilin is actually a stimulant and it's almost paradoxical that you're using a stimulant to calm down a hyperactive child. All I’m saying is that we need to be very careful indeed before we put a child onto Ritilin.
