The therapist's nimble hands start gliding over my muscles and the scent of chamomile and neroli slowly fizzles out the stress of the day until I feel like a piece of clay that is being kneaded to wellness.

This is different from any other ordinary massage in that, instead of feeling zonked out, I feel like I am gaining energy. There is an incredible warmth and healing power coming from Robert, my massage therapist for today. I ask whether he is using shiatsu or reiki techniques and he says no.

For me that signifies the Wisdom of Africa spa concept: Africa’s wide open spaces, incredible beauty, energy and passion is encapsulated in therapies that truly fill the soul. This massage seems to replace every grain of stress with wholesome energy, it is incredibly nourishing.

I have been using the Mongogo Nut Detox Oil at home and it has the same wonderfully warm and loving effect as this massage. So perhaps it's not just the therapist but also the spa oils that are making me feel so energised. Ah, I guess it could be the fact that the Wisdom of Africa products are made without chemicals and are thus as close to the lush natural environment of our continent (from which the ingredients are exclusively sourced) as can be.

I feel the therapist’s hands pressing into my back as though an elephant is walking all over me, then slithering down my spine like a rattle snake and running up and down my musles like a springbuck. I give in to the jungle, let go of my tension and breathe in the life force of Africa.

After a timeless period I hear the refreshing ‘shhh’ sound. It’s the rain cue, telling me that it’s all over. I feel light and free. The healing power, energy and richness of Africa has washed over me.
