"Where did I park my car again?" Sound familiar? As we get older we tend to become more forgetful, and cannot remember things as easily as when we were younger, a very scary thought...
Don't stress, there's a little hope on the horizon of old age — here are some quick ways to improve your memory…
Have breakfast:
Even if it's just a banana and a couple of nuts, the protein will keep you going. Lack of food causes blood-sugar levels to drop, leaving the brain deprived.
Cut down on alcohol:
Alcohol definitely hinders your memory, and not just on a big night out (how did I get home?). If you have a couple of beers a few times a week you will find that your memory deteriorates.
Sleep enough:
Too much caffeine and adrenaline leads to adrenal failure, which turns to anxiety and memory loss. Plus if you are tired you just feel you cannot function.
Exercise:
Exercising
helps you to sleep better and helps regenerate brain tissue. "Cardiovascular exercise that's done over a longer period of time will tend to reduce the amount of tissue you lose as you age," says Stan Colcombe, a researcher at the University of Illinois-Urbana. That includes brain tissue, and losing less of it may mean keeping more precious memories.
Cut out the caffeine
Ditch the Coke, coffee and energy-boosting drinks, they're no good for your all-essential memory.
Focus on your brain
Learn a second language, read more and do puzzles or crosswords.
Eat your veggies
Try organic veggies without pesticides which are linked to memory decline, but whatever you do just make sure you include the greens in your diet — every day.
