Question

Please may I have some information about Reductil®?

Answer

Reductil® (sibutramine) is a drug used in the management of gross obesity which has not responded to other forms of treatment such as diet and exercise.

It should only be used in conjunction with a calorie controlled diet.

In some people it may increase blood pressure and heart rate and should only be used with caution in anyone with poorly controlled high blood pressure.

A weight loss of one percent after four weeks of treatment predicts a favourable response at six months - that is more than five percent weight loss.

Its safety beyond 12 months of treatment has not been evaluated, so it should not be used for longer than this.
