Question

What are enzymes and how important are they in our daily life?

Answer

Enzymes are biological catalysts, that is substances which allow a chemical reaction to take place and are not themselves altered in the process.

They are vital to life and are found in all parts of the body where they control our metabolism. For example, the enzymes produced by our salivary glands start the process of digestion in the mouth. The enzymes in our gut then continue this.
