Question
I am a Type 2 diabetic on oral medication. I had an episode of light flashes in the outer peripherial of both eyes and had difficulty clearly seeing anything not in centre of my vision line. I was feeling a bit weak and I think my sugar may have been low, I was in the process of eating. Once I had finished eating, my vision began to clear. Could low sugar cause this type of symptom?
Answer
These are typical symptoms of low blood sugar. These should serve as a wake-up call to you. Your medication profile might need to be changed to fit possible changing requirements or you may need to increase the number of small carbohydrate meals or snacks that you have each day. In either case you need to consult the doctor who prescribed your medication and review your treatment in the light of this episode.
