With the month of February dedicated to loving, perhaps it's time we have a look at ourselves and take care of our own hearts this Valentine's Day. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of developing heart disease or failure. So it may be slightly selfish but it will be those around us we love that will benefit at the end of the day.
The Sports Science Institute of South Africa's (SSISA) eight-week Healthy Weight Programme offers a holistic and healthy approach to weight-loss.
Using experienced staff and scientific knowledge, the programme encourages positive and sustainable lifestyle changes. Programme participants are looked after and advised by a team of multi-disciplinary specialists that include biokineticists, exercise specialists, a dietician and a health psychologist.
The Healthy Weight Programme keeps abreast with changes and trends in the field of weight-loss through the association with the MRC/UCT Exercise Science and Sports Medicine research unit, headed up by Professor Tim Noakes.
The approach is simple — to achieve a sustainable lifestyle change.
The programme takes individuals through a number of phases that include providing greater knowledge and awareness of food choices and practical sessions that increase physical activity levels and improve commitment to healthy lifestyle habits.
Next Programme starts: 23rd February 2009
